First-Time Registration
You’ll need to register your vehicle if you recently:
Moved to the state
Bought a vehicle
Received a vehicle as a gift
You must register your vehicle within 15 days of taking ownership of it. If you’re new to the state, you must obtain an Arizona registration immediately after becoming a resident.

Get Insurance Car-Registration

You must have proof of financial responsibility (car insurance) to drive in Arizona.

Prepare the Paperwork Car-Registration

When you buy a vehicle from a dealer, the title transfer should be handled for you.
To register your vehicle, you will need a completed Title and Registration application and a notarized vehicle title. You may also need to show a lien release and power of attorney or personal representative papers, depending on the situation.

Calculate the Fees Car-Registration

Registration fees differ depending on the vehicle. However, here’s the standard fee breakdown:
oRegistration: $8
oTitle: $4
oAir quality research fee: $1.50
The vehicle license tax (VLT), weight fee for commercial vehicles, and other fees will increase the amount you will be required to pay.
Duplicate Fees
If you need to replace a license plate, tab, or registration, it will cost you and the fees vary.

Go to the MVD Car-Registration

After you have the proper paperwork and payment for your fees, you will need to go to the nearest MVD office to register and may be required to have your vehicle pass a physical and vehicle identification number (VIN) inspection.
New to the State
If you’re registering an out-of-state vehicle, you may have to pass an emissions test before you’re able to register.
License Plates
You can pick up a standard license plate at the MVD office for $5.

After you receive your tabs at the office, be sure to properly display them on your plate by following the instructions provided.
